All Saints Fantasy Baseball Team

All Saints Fantasy Baseball Team

Like a lot of you, I have been enjoying the World Series this year, which is arguably one of the most entertaining Series in the recent past. In 6 games we have already seen 62 points, 23 home runs, 2 extra innings games and 5 out of 6 were close, within just 1 or 2 points. It is without question “heavenly” since it is between the celestial Houston Astros and angelic Los Angeles Dodgers. But with the intersection of the game 7 of the World Series and All Saints Day, I thought it would be fun to come up with an ubeatable Fantasy Baseball team made up of nothing but Saints.

The manager of this All Saints team would of course be St. Pope John Paul II. He is smart, charismatic and also a lover of sports. He sees sports as a means of developing character through commitment; so who better to lead the team. The pitcher would be Saint Rita of Cascia. As the patron saint of baseball, she is a shoe-in as the central player on the team. And catching Saint Rita’s pitches would be St. Augustine. The catcher, who helps lead the pitcher, should be smart; and we all know that St. Augustine is one of the smartest saints around. Being on his knees for long periods of time on the field is no problem for the man who spent many years in the wicked life before his conversion.

Starting the infield out on 1st base, I would put St. Christopher. He was known to be very tall and so this length would be great for reaching out for the ball to get the runner out.  Next up, on 2nd base, would be St. Padre Pio. Why Padre Pio you might ask? Well, his ability for bilocation would be invaluable to fill the gaps on any grounders. Next to Padre Pio would be Saint Sebastian as the short stop. A short stop is usually very athletic and quick and is considered the leader of the infield. Saint Sebastian was a Captain of the guard and an imperial officer, so he would be a natural leader. He being the patron saint of athletes would of course make him a fit for short stop. The “hot corner” of the infield at 3rd base, called that because the 3rd baseman is relatively close to the batter and most right-handed hitters tend to hit the ball hard (sometimes in excess of 125 mph) in this direction, should be someone who has quick hands, fearless and strong arm to get a ball quickly across the field to throw out the batter at first. I would put King David in this position. As someone who could stand up to Goliath, could definitely stand up to a 125 mph ball. And someone who could throw a rock fast enough to down Goliath, could definitely throw out a runner at 1st.

To round out the field is of course the outfield. You need to be fast and have strong arms. I would put the 3 archangels, St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael, into these positions. They are the last defense and could get to any ball quickly. But the most powerful defense they bring is to stop any and all home runs because they can just take flight and pick the home run ball out of the air.

A final position I would include would be a pinch hitter.  I would put St. Thomas in that position. Why St. Thomas? Well, because he would doubt every strike called by the umpire.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about this All Saints Fantasy Baseball team. Who would you put on this team? Leave your comments below.
